Segundo Paucar, a 14 year old boy wants to become a master story-box maker just like his father to carry on with the family legacy. On his way to a community celebration in the Andes, Segundo accidentally observes his father in a situation that shatters his whole world. Trapped in a chauvinistic environment, Segundo will try to deal in silence with all that is happening to him.
The film premiered at the 2017 Festival de Cine de Lima, where it won the award for Best Peruvian Film. It had its international premiere at the 2018 Berlin International Film Festival, where it won a Teddy Award as the best LGBTQ-themed debut film of the festival. Winner in the category ‘Fiction’ at the 2019 Havana Film Festival New York. It was selected as the Peruvian entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 92nd Academy Awards, but it was not nominated.
ABOUT THE DIRECTOR
Alvaro Delgado Aparicio (Peru) studied Economics and Business Management and achieved a Master’s degree in Organisational Psychology in London. During his studies, he attended film directing workshops at the London Film Academy. In 2010, he made his first short film ¿Me Puedes Ver?, which won the audience and jury award at the Latin American Film Festival. He wrote and directed his second film The Companion, winner of the Peruvian National Short Film Award. At the moment, he is working on his first feature film.
A discussion with Claudia Berrios-Campos (Ph.D. Candidate in Hispanic Cultural Studies), Danny Méndez (Associate Professor of Spanish) and Rocío Quispe-Agnoli (Professor of Spanish) will follow this screening.
